Farmington – Donald Wood Hart, 86, gently passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Pierce House in downtown Farmington, with his daughter at his side.

He was born in Utica, N.Y., on Dec. 13, 1922, the son of Stephen G. Hart and Maude Mae Wood. He was a graduate of St. Bonaventure College where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He attended primary and secondary education in his native Utica, N.Y. area. On Oct. 22, 1945, he married Lucille F. Avery.

Don provided cost/price analyst, contract administrator and contracting officer services to Defense Logistics Agency, military and other Department of Defense customers in the defense contract administration services region. With this experience base, he rose to higher and more responsible positions, necessitating a transfer to Crystal City, Va., and the Pentagon in the Defense Logistics Agency and in the Navy Material Command. From these positions he effected positive influence on Navy and Defense Logistics Agency policy, federal acquisitions regulations, secretary of the Navy decisions and congressional actions.

His distinguished career is enhanced by many other accomplishments and awards and by honorable service with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Retiring to Farmington to be near his daughter and her family, he enjoyed being an active volunteer at Franklin Memorial Hospital, where he served on hospital boards and as auxiliary president. He could often be found volunteering and happily chatting, as he worked in both the stock room and cafeteria.

He is survived by his two children, a daughter, Cindy Stevens and her husband, Robert, of Farmington and a son, David Earl Hart of Flat Rock, N.C.; four grandchildren, Travis, Avery, Shelby and Mallory Stevens; as well as his dog, Addie.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille F. Hart, on Nov. 19, 2004, shortly after celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary.
