Residents of the two cities woke Sunday morning to find a genuine, old-fashioned New England blizzard raging. After a night of extreme cold it began to snow shortly after 5 a.m., and kept it up until about 6 o’clock in the afternoon when after a slight downfall of sleet it stopped snowing. The local car service was nearly stopped but the inter-urban lines ran with very little loss of time. Sunday’s snowfall was the heaviest for two winters with about ten inches of snow.

A Lewiston motorist learned a lesson the hard way yesterday morning. Parked on Main Street, the fellow was, with the windshield of his car coated with a thick layer of ice. Instead of scraping the stuff off, he went into a nearby restaurant and borrowed a pail of hot water. Outside, he poured the steaming water onto the frozen windshield.

The ice melted all right, but the hot water also caused that big windshield to crack and shatter from one side to the other.

Live and learn.
