FARMINGTON – Wrapping up a weeklong study titled Potato Week, fifth-graders at Cascade Brook School learned a dance Friday to top off a variety of activities.

With a grant from the National Potato Board, Alyce Cavanaugh, health and wellness coordinator for SAD 9, planned events for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders, including a bar in the cafeteria featuring different potato dishes.

While Michelle Witt’s fifth-graders gathered in the library to learn the dance with school librarian Trish Flint, the class quickly voiced the highlights of the week.

“Good lunches,” Jacob Hatch said, “especially the tacos and sweet potato pie. All the dishes were made out of potatoes.”

Games included potato sack races, and Cassidy Mosher prompted the class to sing a newly learned potato song. Along with the fun, the week included studies about potatoes and nutrition.
