WEST PARIS – Helen Eveley Estes, 83, of West Paris, died at the Ledgeview Living Center on Jan. 16, after a long illness.

She was born in Woodstock, Feb. 27, 1925, the daughter of George and Lillian (Magoun) Tuell and was educated in local schools. She married Stanley W. Estes on April 25, 1943 in West Paris. They made their home and raised their family in West Sumner.

Her young work experience found her at A. L. Stewart and Penley’s Mill. She later worked as a cook at Chapel Valley Nursing Home and baked for Goodwins Restaurants. She was a certified nursing assistant, working at Chapel Valley Nursing Home, Ledgeview Nursing Home and private duty care. She retired in 1986 as dietary director and cook at Victorian Villa in Canton.

She was a member of the Sumner Mothers Club, Sumner Senior Citizens, a former member of the West Sumner Grange and Tri Town Rescue Auxiliary and was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church. She was a great baker, loved housekeeping and sewing and had taken up painting in her retirement years. Her life was the love for her family.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne S. Estes and his wife, Brenda, and Richard W. Estes and his wife, Kathy, all of Sumner; four daughters, Glenice Estes of Sumner, Brenda Birney and Tony Frangipane of Paris, Carrie A. Warren and her husband, Mark Warren, of Greene and Diane Allen and her husband, Dennis, of West Paris; two sisters, Barbara Cash and Claribel Poland, both of West Paris; seven grandchildren, Eric Warren and Missy Warren, both of Greene, William Birney of Paris, Tammy Estes of Chelsea, John Roberts Jr. of West Paris, Richard Estes of South Paris and Shawn Coffin of Woodstock; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley in 1986; one brother, Gilman Tuell; and one sister, Margaret King.
