I attended the Lewiston Finance Committee meeting Jan. 12. The committee voted to sign a 2-year contract with FCR Goodman for the removal and selling of recycled goods. There was a time for input from the public, after which Lewiston City Councilors Robert Reed and Denis Theriault made some comments aimed at those attending, including referring to them as “crazy citizens” or “someone on a witch hunt.”
Wouldn’t it be better for them to consider myself and other interested parties as educated, retired, concerned citizens who now have time to investigate and follow through with issues that could be detrimental to our community?
I feel that it would greatly benefit the city if council and finance committee members would research and investigate companies before signing contracts with them, as I’m certain they would do when dealing with their personal properties.
