AUBURN – Cynthia Lee Schryver Smith of Sabattus died Monday, Jan. 19.
She was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of Alan D. Schryver and Clara “Betty” Aldrich Schryver.
She was raised in Orlando and graduated from Wm. R. Boon High School, Class of 1955. She attended Mars Hill College for two years after which she decided along with two other friends to go to airline stewardess school. Later, she moved to Washington, D.C., and was employed at the White House during President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s administration.
She left Washington and entered Appalachian State Teachers College in Boon, N.C., where she earned her teaching degree. She moved back to Orlando, where she at one time served as dean, and also taught history at Oak Ridge High School until her retirement in 1997. She was married for 10 years to Ronald Smith.
In 2001, she moved to Sabattus.
She had a great love for animals, particularly horses, as well as her cats, Thumper and Socks. She had a great love affair with the ocean and managed to visit all the light houses in Maine. She also enjoyed music, writing poetry and photography. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her adoptive family, Gloria Sites of Sabattus, Kelly and Bud Woodcock and their daughters, Ashley and Emily Woodcock of Wales and Allen and Darlin Austin and their daughter, Jennah and son, Erik of Lewiston; dear friend Charlene Cormier of Sabattus; as well as many friends from Orlando and other parts of the United States.
