AUBURN – Madelyn J. Atwood, 81, lifelong resident of Sabattus, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, at The Hospice House.

She was born in Webster, on March 12, 1927, a daughter of James H. and Helena (Snyder) Brewer. She was educated in local schools, graduated from Sabattus High School in 1945, and remained a lifelong resident of this area.

On Oct. 26, 1946, she married Horace J. Atwood and together they settled in Sabattus to raise their family. She worked 43 years for Webster Rubber Co. in Sabattus until her retirement in 1991.

She was a member of the Community Free Baptist Church in Sabattus and was a proud member and past matron of Lakeside Chapter 60 Order of the Eastern Star in Sabattus. She was an avid reader in her free time and she also enjoyed spending quality time with her family and close friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who gave of herself to her family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves her husband of 62 years, Horace Atwood of Sabattus; two sons, Dennis J. Atwood and his wife, Karen, of Sabattus and Stephen J. Atwood and his fiancee, Debbie Clary, also of Sabattus; three grandchildren, Kris Nadeau, Stephen Atwood and his wife, Sue and Alyson Parent and her husband, Chad; and two great-granddaughters, Haley and Abby Atwood.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Noyes; a brother, Charles H. Brewer; her step-father, Clarence Carville; and her parents.
