Dear Sun Spots: As an occasional player of Maine Lottery scratch tickets, I am aware that there are various tickets whose proceeds are used to fund hunting, fishing, wildlife conservation, etc. I would like to propose a ticket that would benefit our humane societies and animal shelters. They are badly underfunded and understaffed and in dire need of help.

Who would I contact at the state lottery with this proposal? It could generate badly needed funds for a very noble and worthy cause without raising taxes and would be very popular.

Could Sun Spots publish contact information for the appropriate lottery official? Perhaps your animal loving readers could join me in a letter-writing campaign to make this happen. With gratitude. – David Firsching, Farmington.

Answer: Sun Spots contacted many people with this request and we discovered that it is a legislative issue. The employees of the state’s liquor and lottery commission do not decide the types of tickets that are created or what organizations are supported by funds raised. It is recommended that you contact your representative for more information. The representative will have to sponsor a bill to be introduced in the Legislature. It’s a wonderful idea, we wish you luck!

Dear Sun Spots: I am wondering if any of your readers can help me. I am looking for a knitting pattern from the 1960s. It is called the petal yoke cardigan and the pattern came from the Coats and Clark Company. I found the cover of the booklet, but not the pattern.
