LIVERMORE FALLS – Interim Town Manager Kristal Flagg has temporarily suspended obtaining bids to demolish a burned-out apartment building on Main Street.
Flagg said she talked to a representative of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection on Wednesday and learned that a hazardous materials survey needs to be done before demolition.
Selectmen voted Monday to solicit bids to tear down the building at 90 Main Street next to Dunkin’ Donuts.
Thomas Harville’s apartment house was badly damaged in a fire last March. Two teenage boys were charged with arson and breaking and entering in connection with the blaze. The house was vacant at the time and not insured.
Harville, of Skowhegan, and any parties of interest have until Monday, Feb. 2, to appeal the selectmen’s decision declaring it a dangerous building under state law.
The town will foreclose on the property on Feb. 2 as well, if property taxes for 2006 are not paid.
