There is legislation to be introduced by state Sen. Dennis Damon, D-Trenton, to rewrite the existing statute that says marriage is between a man and a woman, into a union between two people. That is government speaking.
For religious groups, “marriage” is a sacred term, which includes procreation. In an article in the Sun Journal, Nov. 17, 2008, a spokesman for the Catholic diocese wrote that marriage is ordained by God, giving the couple the duty to procreate the human race.
If that is the gospel truth, couples, old or young, applying for a marriage license should have to show evidence of passing a physical exam to prove they could reproduce. If they can’t, they don’t get the license.
For religious groups, sex equals sin. Marriage removes the sin. By denying marriage to homosexuals, religious groups have eternally doomed gays to a life of sin.
Gays are in the minority. Religious groups are in the majority. It’s like David versus Goliath. Unless David is granted a chance, Goliath will work day and night to destroy him.
The minority group deserves equality. Maine should be granting civil union licenses to all couples who want to unite, allowing them to live a life without fear or prejudice.
Equality for everyone!
