In 1941, Fr. Herve Drouin founded St. Dominic High School for families seeking a Catholic high school education in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Now a regional school, St. Dom’s offers that same opportunity to families from all over central Maine. Today more than ever, families from Augusta to Gray and from Norway to the coast, are looking for educational alternatives where the moral and spiritual growth of the student are accompanied by a rigorous college preparatory academic program.

Each year, an average of 95% of St. Dom’s graduates go on to post-secondary education. The beneficiaries of a low 1-12 teacher to student ratio, each student at St. Dom’s is personally challenged to achieve increasing levels of personal excellence through College Preparatory, Honors, Advanced Placement and Virtual High School courses. Outside the classroom, over 90% our of our student body participates in a wide array of extra-curricular activities

Meeting the cost of such a quality, private education, however, is a challenge for many families. This year, the cost of educating each student at St. Dom’s will amount to over $12,000, but through the support of our Diocese, fundraising and subsidies provided by the school, basic tuition is $7,875. That number is lessened further for families who are registered and active members of a Catholic parish. Monthly payment plans are also available to help make this investment manageable for each of our families.

Part of Fr. Drouin’s vision was to insure that every family wanting to become part of the St. Dom’s community would be able to be able to, regardless of means. Above and beyond the aforementioned assistance received by each of our families, St. Dom’s extends additional merit and financial aid through the G. Michael Welch Endowment Program. This program, named after St. Dom’s former principal and outlined below, provides further financial assistance to those families needing help in meeting tuition costs. It is our sincere desire that finances not be an obstacle for any qualified student to attend St. Dom’s.

As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, come to learn more about the educational opportunities that await you at St. Dominic Regional High School. We will be hosting a “St. Dom’s Information Night” on January 29th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. THE G. MICHAEL WELCH ENDOWMENT Need Based Tuition Assistance

St. Dom’s offers tuition aid for those families who demonstrate financial need. The system is designed to examine multiple financial factors involved in a family’s finances and make a determination as to that family’s ability to afford private education. The St. Dominic Financial Aid Committee then verifies the determined amount of tuition assistance to award for each family.

Merit Based Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships are available to those 9th grade applicants who demonstrate high achievement on the STS High School Placement Test and show exemplary performance in the classroom.

Welch Scholar

Merit-Based Scholarships are also available for sophomores, juniors and seniors at St. Dom’s. The criteria for these scholarships are based on academic achievement, school involvement, extra-curricular activities and the completion of an essay: “What has the St. Dominic Experience meant to me as a student and as a person?” Formal applications to be recognized and awarded as a “Welch Scholar” are available at the school annually.
