Lisbon – Albert J. Bernier Jr., 83, went peacefully to the Lord, at home with his loving family by his side on Jan. 24.
He was born in Lisbon Falls on Oct. 28, 1925, the son of Albert J. Bernier, Sr. and Dora Beal Bernier.
He married his sweetheart, Marion Sheen Bernier, on Feb. 22, 1947, and made his home in Lisbon.
He was employed for many years as director of transportation, building and grounds for the Lisbon School Department.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a gunners mate on the LST 681, and he and Marion enjoyed many Navy reunions all over the country.
He was a Masonic member of Ancient York Lodge in Lisbon Falls, a member of American Legion, Sportsman Alliance of Maine, N.R.A., and past member of the Lisbon Lobster Club.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and camping and loved spending time at his Tacoma Lake cottage with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Sheen Bernier, of 61 years; four daughters, Elaine Licciardi and husband, Andrew, from Naples, Fla., Barbara Pedersen and husband, Thomas, of Auburn, Kathleen Cordts and husband, John, of Lisbon and Joni Herling and husband, Stephen, of Lisbon; one sister, Virginia McIver of Bowdoin; nine grandchildren, Andrew Licciardi Jr., Angela (Licciardi) Masino, Benjamin Pedersen, Denise (Strait) Merrill, John Cordts, Kristina (Cordts) Winslow, Jessica Herling, Kara (Herling) Murphy and Scott Herling; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Dora Bernier; and two sisters, Jacqueline Thibeault and Patricia Strait.
