AUBURN – Two women have pleaded guilty following a prostitution sting in Auburn, having placed online advertisements on Craig’s List under “Erotic Services.”

Denica Richard, 24, of Biddeford and Sonya Gerry, 37, of Saco were arrested Dec. 19. Richard, who was charged with engaging in prostitution, pleaded guilty last week and was fined $750. Gerry was charged with promotion of prostitution. She also pleaded guilty last week and was fined $1,500.

According to a news release from the Auburn Police Department, the arrests were made as part of a joint undercover prostitution sting in Auburn by Auburn police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Auburn police said Monday night they couldn’t identify the court where the two women pleaded guilty or elaborate on the charges.

According to police, Richard “admitted to investigators that she engages in sex for money and works for Ms. Gerry who sets up the appointments. Ms. Gerry admitted to investigators that she has several girls that work for her and that she receives a commission for every client.”

In addition to traveling to local hotels to meet clients located through Craig’s List, police said the women would also “purchase blocks of rooms in various hotels and they have the clients come to their location.”

Due to an ongoing criminal investigation, Auburn police had not been able to release the information until Monday.
