What’s a kid to do if they have a passion for drama? If they are a student at Philip W. Sugg, a Lisbon Junior Volunteer, and have a “bug” for acting, the answer is easy. As part of a community service project, six students at PWS are Goin’ Buggy. This Advocate reporter, along with former drama students Monica Austin, Jack Caron, Rebekah Nida, Taylor Plourde and Lily Wade are volunteering at Lisbon Community School with this year’s drama production of “Goin’ Buggy.”
Junior Volunteers like to get involved with all kinds of projects at school and in their community. It wasn’t long after word got out that Director Laurie Adams was looking for help with this year’s play that the students signed up to assist with making props and helping students with some dance routines. “This production’s success depends greatly on the help we receive from our Junior Volunteers. We really appreciate their help! This year we have a smaller cast so their strong voices in the background will come in handy,” shares Mrs. Adams.
“Throughout the school year we look for community projects for our Junior and Young Adult Volunteers to offer their assistance,” shares Lisbon Volunteer Coordinator Monica Millhime. “Thanks to the combined efforts of our LCS Principal Carlene Iverson and PWS Principal Rick Green and our bus drivers, we are able to provide a number of opportunities for our students.”
“Goin’ Buggy” will be performed at Lisbon Community School, 33 Mill Street in Lisbon, on Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or by calling 754-0021.
