Tax service
RUMFORD – Income taxes will be prepared and e-filed by IRS-certified tax preparers locally for those who fit the guidelines. The service, sponsored by AARP, will be provided free from Feb. 4 to April 4 by appointment to people of all ages with low to moderate incomes. Call 364-3633 for appointments.
Special service
RUMFORD – The Rumford United Methodist Church will hold a special service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, culminating a year of “100 Years of Spirit.”
Special guests will be Beverly Stenmark, superintendent of the Mid-Maine District, and Bishop Peter Weaver, head of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church. .
Music will include a choir anthem, “We Will Walk in the Light,” and an offertory by the Church Belles, who will sing “From the First Hallelujah to the Last Amen.”
After the service, a light lunch will be served in the fellowship hall where parishioners and guests will have an opportunity to meet the bishop and the district superintendent.
Ski team raffle
RUMFORD – Mountain Valley High School is conducting a ski team raffle for two box seats to the Boston Bruins-New York Rangers game on April 4.
Proceeds will help defray the cost of travel to Presque Isle for the Class B state championships and other ski team expenses. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
