The price of fuel oil advanced a half-cent a gallon recently and many householders are just becoming aware of the fact as they received bills for recent deliveries.

One dealer reported last night the latest increase, from 16½ cents to 17 cents a gallon, went into effect more than two weeks ago. He said Lewiston and Auburn dealers “squawked” to the producers but the price increase went into effect just the same.

He reported that dealers were notified at 5 o’clock one night that at midnight the price was increasing by a half cent from 16½ to 17 cents a gallon, just at the height of the heating season.

David Biron is beginning to feel natural in front of a class. In March he’ll instruct a course designed to teach efficient emergency dispatching techniques. With extensive experience in the field, he’s been teaching similar courses for the last 10 years.

The Communications Dispatcher Training Course, which has been developed by the Lewiston man, will begin on March 6 and run through April 5, meeting two evenings each week in the training room of Lewiston Central Fire Station.

Biron said the course will cover the basic dispatcher requirements, Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations, and the “dos and don’ts” of dispatching (like not broadcasting the scores of ballgames on the air).
