OXFORD – The Oxford Police Department has installed an anonymous tip line and is inviting people to let it know about criminal behavior.

Detective Sgt. Mike Ward said the number, 539-4414, is the same as the department’s main line. However, callers will be prompted to access the anonymous tip line or may select No. 3 to go to it.

“We really appreciate the public’s help in solving crimes,” Ward said.

Ward said people often want to remain anonymous in reporting a crime to avoid retaliation. He said the line went into service last Thursday, but that an anonymous tip that came in shortly before the activation helped him solve a burglary.
