LEWISTON – Lauren Yanofsky scored 19 points to power Bates to a 73-58 victory over Connecticut College in women’s basketball Friday.
The Bobcats (15-5) outrebounded Connecticut 47-39 and held the Camels to 27 percent shooting from the field. Val Beckwith added 13 points and Annie Burns dished out 10 assists for Bates.
Bates jumped out to leads of 8-2 and 15-9, but the Camels (7-11) came back with an 8-0 run to take their lone lead of the game at 17-15. Kim Horne led the Camels with 14 points.
UMF 73, Green Mtn. 62
POULTNEY, Vt. – A trio of Maine-Farmington players reached double-digit points to catapult the Beavers to a 73-62 victory over Green Mountain.
Caitlyn Laflin netted 22 points for the Beavers (9-8), while Erin Porter added 15 points and Samantha Wiley chipped in with 10 points.
The Eagles (8-7) closed the gap to single digits (37-44) at the 15:23 mark of the second half, but could not come any closer. Senior Christina Chamberlin led the Eagles with 17 points and had a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line.
Men’s basketball
Bates 64, Connecticut 54
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Bates College rallied back from a 13-point first half deficit to defeat Connecticut College 64-56.
Brian Ellis netted 15 points in 22 minutes of action for the Bobcats (11-8) , shooting 6-for-11 from the field. Junior Chris Wilson chipped in with 13 points and nine assists.
Junior Shavar Bernier poured in a game-high 18 points to go with three steals for the Camels (10-9).
UMF 77, Green Mtn. 65
POULTNEY, Vt. – Sophomore Eric Taylor of Oakland led all scorers with 34 points to pace Maine-Farmington to a 77-65 victory over Green Mountain College.
The Eagles (10-6) had no answer for Taylor, who shot 14-for-22 from the floor and added 12 rebounds for UMF (7-9). Green Mountain was led by senior Fabian Ferriera, who scored 20 points and notched three assists.
Farmington junior Josh Tanguay joined Taylor with his own double-double, scoring 21 pionts and pulling down 13 rebounds.
