WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jan Sammon, 59, of Winston-Salem, N.C., died at home after a long illness on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

He was born in Kansas City, Kan., on June 6, 1949, son of Joella (Fiala) and Neil Sammon. He attended local schools in Kansas City, Kan., and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a mechanic at various Ford dealerships in Maine, North Carolina and Kansas for more than 30 years. He was an avid hot rod fan and was known for rebuilding 1930-era vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian, whom he married March 7, 1970; sons, Mark Sammon and wife, Niki, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Greg Sammon of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his father, Neil Sammon of Kansas City, Mo.; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother; and his sister, Jerry Sweeten of Kansas City, Kan., Jan. 29.
