JAY – A Livermore Falls man was charged Thursday with stealing a snowmobile from Spruce Mountain Ski Area. Police say he tried to sell the $6,000 machine for $800.
Jay officer Michael Mejia arrested Ronald J. Davis, 19, of 17 Wheeler St. Thursday night on charges of felony burglary and theft. Mejia also summoned Davis to court on charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass and operating an unregistered snowmobile.
Spruce Mountain Ski Club members reported the yellow and black 2003 Ski-Doo Scantic stolen at 3 p.m., Jay police Chief Larry White said.
People in Pine Ridge Trailer Park off Route 106 in Livermore Falls called police after a person was seen driving a snowmobile matching the description of the one stolen.
A resident confronted Davis and took the keys after a slight altercation. Davis fled on foot, but Livermore Falls police officer Steve Allen followed his tracks, apprehended him and held him for Jay police, White said. The machine’s windshield was damaged, he said.
Davis was also charged with felony burglary in connection with burglaries at the Spruce Mountain Ski Lodge on Dec. 29, Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, when nearly $100 and a two-way radio were stolen. About $500 in damage was done to windows and locks.
Davis was being held on $800 cash bail at the Franklin County jail Friday.
