Auburn – Lorette Chaput, 83, formerly of James Street in Auburn and Rosedale Street and Summit Streets in Lewiston, passed away Saturday morning at Clover Manor.

She was born in Lewiston on May 13, 1925, a daughter of Wilfred and Leda (Thibodeau) Fortier. She was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. Lorette worked for a short time in local shoe shops but spent many years as a stay-at-home Mom and homemaker as she and her husband began to raise their family.

She was married to Maurice Chaput who predeceased her in 1965. She attended Sacred Heart Church while living in Auburn and Holy Cross Church for some years while living in Lewiston.

In her free time Lorette enjoyed playing cards, cooking and especially cribbage.

She leaves her son, David Chaput and wife, Gisele, of Chambersburg, Pa.; a daughter, Christine McDermott and husband, Arnold, of Ohio; four grandchildren Philip, Angela, Dillon and Cassandra; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Lorette was predeceased by a daughter, Rachel Billings, in May of 2008.
