LEWISTON – Monday night’s return to the ice at Androscoggin Bank Colisee was a snapshot of St. Dom’s season. That’s what the Saints hope, at least.

Momentum has been tough to generate and tougher to sustain throughout a brutal schedule in a balanced boys’ hockey conference. Perhaps the two goals in a late, 38-second span of the third period that finally shook off Kennebunk, 6-2, are a sign that the Saints have the finishing kick to make February a memorable final furlong.

Ben Randall and Casey Parker each produced two goals and an assist for the Saints (8-5), who won for the fifth time in seven starts and cleared the cobwebs of Saturday’s one-goal loss at Falmouth.

“We’ve just got to get into a rhythm,” Parker said. “We have glimpses of brilliance. We’ve just got to keep up the consistency, and I think we can make a run at it.”

Cam Brown and Richard Paradis also found the net for the Saints. Paradis, a senior defenseman, provided his customary fuel injection to the offense with two assists.

No top-tier team in Western Class A sports fewer than three losses. Kennebunk (5-7-1) represented the first hurdle in a six-day stretch that could allow the Saints to separate themselves from the middle of the pack. Two-time reigning state champion Biddeford and Scarborough await.

“They’re all big at this point,” said St. Dom’s coach Steve Ouellette. “In our division in particular, a lot of teams could win it this year. Whoever wins the West is probably going to have at least five losses. That’s just the way the season is this year.”

Joey York collected both goals for the Rams, starting with St. Dom’s wake-up call only 1:26 into the contest.

Paradis set up Parker’s equalizer just over a minute later.

“All season long we’ve had trouble in the first period,” Parker said. “We’ve been working on our conditioning, and it’s paying off in the long run.”

Kennebunk kept the game tied into the first intermission and applied a majority of the pressure early in the second period. Once goaltender Shayne Curtis (21 saves), Paradis and the St. Dom’s defense quelled the commotion at the blue line, the Saints hit their stride and cashed in three of their next five shots on goal.

Randall registered two in a row, putting the Saints ahead to stay at 3:16 with help from Nate Bergeron and making it a two-goal lead courtesy of Alex and Casey Parker at 7:38.

St. Dom’s first line flourished again, making it 4-1 on Casey Parker’s connection from Alex Parker and Randall with 2:06 remaining in the period.

York went end-to-end with a feed from Patrick Graydon and reduced the Rams’ deficit to a pair with 4:16 to go in the third. Brown quickly retrieved the lost cushion, Paradis assisting.

“That seems to be the story of our season is giving up one and then having to answer back,” Ouellette said. “We need to work on our defensive zone some more. We gave up some things we shouldn’t have given up. But coming off another one-goal loss like that, it’s good to get back. Putting six on the board is nice.”

Paradis’ enormous blast from the slot polished it off with 1:44 remaining. Bergeron and Spencer Teixeira doled out the assists.

With his ninth and 10th goals of the season, Casey Parker joined Paradis as a double-digit scorer for the Saints. Paradis’ 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) are tops in Tier I West.

“We’ve been spreading out the scoring all season long, but Richard’s leading us,” Parker said. “He’s having a special year.”
