MOLUNKUS TOWNSHIP (AP) – A pair of snowmobile operators in Maine used a dog sled – minus the dogs – to get a woman to safety after she broke a leg on a snowmobile ride.

Game Warden Paul Harrington says Penny Hayes of Lincoln made it to Penobscot Valley Hospital of Lincoln quickly thanks to the helpful strangers and a little ingenuity on Saturday. She was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center for further treatment.

Elsewhere, a 21-year-old Rumford man was treated for hypothermia after riding his snowmobile into open water Saturday night on the Androscoggin River.
