FARMINGTON – The Western Maine CA$H (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) Coalition is again offering free tax preparation this tax season at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Appointments are available now through March 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Taxes are prepared by IRS-certified community volunteers. Call 778-7954 to schedule an appointment.

New this year will be “Super Refund Saturday” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Roberts Learning Center, UMF campus.

As part of the event, area financial institutions, organizations and agencies will set up informational booths for visitors to explore. There will be opportunity to network with representatives who can help connect individuals to community resources to build a secure financial future. Refreshments will also be served.

Muriel Armstrong, a clinical documentation specialist at Franklin Memorial Hospital, is a supporter of the free tax preparation offered by the CA$H coalition.

She had her taxes prepared last year by the trained volunteers. “I was pleased to get something free and reliable. The connections to other agencies were also very beneficial. I will definitely use it again this year.”
