FARMINGTON – A father and son from Strong facing drug charges in separate incidents had more drug charges lodged against them after the son was involved in a crash and police searched his vehicle.

Farmington police investigated a wreck on Jan. 27 where Ronal J. Cabe, 19, was pulling out of a driveway at 234 Main St. and struck a vehicle, police said.

Police searched Cabe’s vehicle and found about a quarter-pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, said Gerry Baril, supervising agent at the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in Lewiston, on Monday.

Cabe had been arrested Jan. 22, in Strong after police and drug agents searched a farmhouse he shared with Ritter Bopp, 21, on Streeter Street. Both men were charged with cultivating marijuana and trafficking in it after Baril said police found 16 pot plants growing at the residence.

After the Jan. 27 arrest of the younger Cabe, drug agents had reason to visit the elder Cabe’s residence, Baril said.

Ronald G. Cabe, 52, had been arrested in October on a felony charge of aggravated trafficking in marijuana and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana cultivation after 30 pounds of marijuana was seized from his Norton Hill Road residence, Baril said.

Last week, MDEA agents arrested the elder Cabe on charges of aggravating cultivating of marijuana and violation of condition of release, Baril said.

Ninety-five plants in various stages of growth and about a quarter pound of dried processed marijuana were seized, he said.

Twenty-six plants were full-grown and starting to develop but had not flowered, Baril said. Seventeen were budding and 52 were seedlings 3 to 4 inches tall, he said.

Ronal Cabe was released from jail on $500 cash bail and a Maine pre-trial service agreement. Ronald Cabe, the father, remains in jail, held on $2,500 cash bail or $25,000 surety and a pre-trial service agreement, a Franklin County corrections officer said.
