Foothills Land trust to host annual ski event
NORWAY – The Western Foothills Land Trust will sponsor its 16th annual cross country ski event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the home of Bob and Mary Van Nest, 265 Old Stage Road.
The Van Nests have approximately 8km of groomed, mapped and marked trails that meander around their farm’s pastures, fields and woods. The farm was one of the first in the area to be protected by conservation easements with the trust.
At noon there will be a new event for family, friends or business teams: Wacky Human Bowling. Teams will need three people and a snow saucer. One team member will sit in the saucer and be the “ball,” the other team members will launch the “ball” toward the pins. The pins will be empty gallon milk containers. Prizes will be awarded.
This year the event will raise funds for the trust’s purchase of Roberts Farm Preserve. A $10 donation for adults/$5 for kids will be appreciated. Information regarding the trust and Roberts Farm Preserve will be available as well as hot cocoa.
Due to Jill Gabrielsen and SAD 17, children’s cross country skis, poles and boots will be available for use during the event.
