JAY – The GFWC/Livermore Falls Women’s Club held the annual Doris’s Brunch at LaFleur’s Restaurant.
Members held a business meeting after the brunch. They voted to add the GFWC designation to the name to signify that the club is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international organization. Then a Scotch auction was held to start the fundraising for 2009.
The Maine Federation has 26 clubs and the General Federation has thousands of clubs worldwide. The nonprofit organization represents many thousands of volunteer hours and millions of dollars each year given to support charities.
In 2008, the members of the GFWC/Livermore Falls Women’s Club tallied more than 4,000 volunteer hours and more than $20,000 in actual and in-kind donations. The club added seven new members.
Each year the club holds at least five meetings, several workshops, fundraisers and fun outings. Anyone in the area wanting more information or wishing to join should call Co-President Gail Slade at 897-2158 or Co-President Lucille Lavoie at 897-5106.
