Contractors from throughout New England apparently are going to submit bids on the proposed Goff Pasture-Hart Brook sewer project in Lewiston.

City Controller Laurier T. Raymond said last night that “around 20” firms have taken out plans and specifications for the big job. They include local contractors as well as companies in various parts of New England.

Bids are due to be opened Feb. 23 by the Board of Finance and the overall expense, including materials to be supplied by the city, is expected to be around $300,000.

The Auburn City Council will consider adding a street light at Hotel Road and Route 122 when it meets Monday evening. Ward 4 Councilman Alvin Gilbert requested a resolve to install the light because, he says, the intersection is difficult at night from all directions. But because the nearest power source is more than 400 feet from the intersection, the city would have to place six poles and two guide poles to extend power. The light would cost $43.08 per month, or $516.96 annually.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the City Building.
