FARMINGTON – Two men pleaded guilty Wednesday to 40 charges each in connection with vandalism at dozens of camps on Porter Lake in Strong and New Vineyard last summer.

Zachary Heath, 19, of West Farmington, and Shane Sturgeon, 21, of Livermore, pleaded guilty to burglary, criminal mischief and theft.

Franklin County Superior Court Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Heath to three years in prison with the Department of Corrections with all but six months suspended on the felony burglary charges and two years probation. He received 90-day concurrent sentences for the other charges and was ordered to pay $8,595.18 in restitution along with his six co-defendants. He is to have no alcohol or illegal drugs and be subject to random searches.

Sturgeon, a convicted felon, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said, was sentenced to four years in prison with the Department of Corrections with all but nine months and one day suspended. He was sentenced to 90-day concurrent sentences for criminal mischief and theft and ordered to serve three years probation, pay a share of the $8,595.18 restitution and have no alcohol or illegal drugs and submit to random searches.

Both men are prohibited from having contact with co-defendants Dylan Couturier, 18, of Livermore Falls, Timothy Lagasse, 19, of Farmington and three juvenile boys from Franklin County.

Initially, Heath and Sturgeon faced 57 charges each, but the rest were dismissed by the state in plea agreements.

Twenty-seven camps were burglarized June 16 and 17, 2008, and sustained more than $100,000 in damage. Alcohol and tools were primarily what was taken from the camps, Robinson said.

The state is seeking restitution from the defendants to cover insurance deductibles on the properties, Robinson said.
