Under the direction and guidance of Danny Caron, The Green Ladle, part of the Lewiston Regional Technical Center at Lewiston High School, has become well known to local residents for superb and creative lunches at a reasonable price accompanied by excellent service. Now there’s another reason to go there – wedding receptions!

“The mission of the program is to help prepare students for a culinary college or the workforce,” Caron explained. To that end, the program recently moved to a state-of-the-art facility with a built-in kitchen classroom

adjacent to a banquet and meeting facility on the Lewiston High School campus.

“Last year, we sent 18 students on to two- or four-year colleges such as Culinary Institute of America, Johnson and Wales, Southern Maine Community College or New England Culinary,” Caron noted. Many students work locally at restaurants such as Fishbones, Davinci’s Eatery, Mac’s Grill, Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli and Hilton Garden Inn, to name just a few.

“Here at The Green Ladle they gain experience such as prep cooking, baking, serving, preparing soups and sauces, sanitation – all areas of running a restaurant or catering business,” Caron added. Students from six area high schools – Poland, Edward Little, Leavitt, Lisbon, Oak Hill and Lewiston – attend the culinary arts program at The Green Ladle.

The facility seats up to 225 guests in the main room; two additional conference rooms hold 40 guests each. In addition to a wedding and banquet buffet menu, which starts at $13.95 per person, there are separate menus for bridal or baby showers, catering on-site, take-out catering, breakfasts, desserts, hors d’oeuvres, and more.
