A Sunday afternoon accident that sent one man to the hospital is under investigation by the Rumford Police Department.

Gregory Fraser, 55, of Newry, was transported first to Rumford Hospital and later to Central Maine Medical Center. His condition was unknown as of Sunday night.

Rumford police officer Donald Miller said Fraser was headed westbound on Route 2 at about 4:10 p.m. when a van driven by Richard Suydam, 54, of Rumford, pulled out of the Marden’s parking lot into his path. Miller said that Fraser was unable to stop and hit Suydam’s vehicle.

Damage to Fraser’s 1995 Toyota 4-door was estimated at $1,000; to Suydam’s 1992 Plymouth van, $2,500. No charges had been filed as of Sunday night.
