The crazies are at it again. Rush Limbaugh and his brethren are again spreading misinformation about what will happen when President Barack Obama closes the “concentration camp” at Guantanamo Bay. Their intent is to make people afraid, very afraid, instead of proud of this country.

Guantanamo represents all the bad things that President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney did while in power: promoting torture, shredding the Constitution and the right of habeas corpus, violating the Geneva Conventions because they are “quaint.”

Thankfully, President Obama knows this nation can win the war against terror without abandoning principles and the Constitution. Terrorists can be prosecuted under the criminal laws of the United States and, if convicted, can be held safely in federal prisons. The nation simply doesn’t need Gitmo or its kangaroo courts.

America has always stood for justice for all, even for its enemies. Let’s restore due process for all, so that we can be proud of our country again.
