GORHAM – Led by first-place finishes by Matt York and Cam Woodford, the Poland boys’ track team finished third Saturday in the Western Maine Conference championships at the University of Southern Maine.

The Poland girls finished fifth behind a pair of gold-medal performances by Brittany Bell.

Gray-New Gloucester was sixth in both the boys’ and girls’ meets.

York continued Poland’s excellence in the high jump by winning the event with a leap of 6-feet, 2-inches. York also placed in the long jump. Woodford ruled the junior shot put with a distance of 41-10.

Eli Murphy placed in three events for the Knights. He placed second in the junior hurdles, and third in both the junior high jump and junior 200. Teammate Collin Dudley finished just ahead of Murphy in the high jump in second. Edgar Satterfield added a third place in the senior shot put.

Bell was one of the standouts in the girls’ meet, winning the long jump (16-10) and the senior 400 (1:01.06) by wide margins. Bell also placed second in the senior 200.

Also scoring well for the Knights were Kendra Lobley, who was second in the junior 400 and third in both the junior high jump and open 800. Meghan Perkins took second in the pole vault and Tessa Theriault was fourth in the junior hurdles.

Gray-New Gloucester picked up the bulk of its points in the sprints. Ben Miklovich and Cody Chase placed 1-3 in the senior 55 and Sam Miklovich was second in the junior dash. Ben Miklovich added a second in the senior 200.

Amanda Peterson placed second in both the junior 55 and 200, while Jasmine Turner won finished in the junior high jump.
