Dwinal OES
MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Masonic Hall. There will be a potluck supper at 6:30.
During the meeting members will recognize and honor the men of the order with a special program prepared by the Worthy Matron. All members are invited.
Pine tree OES
AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. The chapter will honor past matrons and patrons and past appointive grand officers. Pine Cone has the travel emblem for District 4.
The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:15. All Eastern Star members are welcome.
Harvesting ice
LIVERMORE – Washburn-Norlands Living History Center is ready to cut, haul and stack ice blocks from Bartlett Pond, using hand tools and horse power, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. The blocks will be stored in a temporary ice house on the grounds.
Visitors will participate in the living history of ice harvesting. It is a free hands-on event.
The entire event will take place at Bartlett Pond, which is about half mile down the hill from the Norlands mansion on Norlands Road. There will be a campfire and hot drinks.
Norlands could still use a few more saws and ice picks. Those who have one are asked to bring it.

Square dance
PARIS – The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will have a Sweet Heart Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street.
Walt Bull will be the caller and Bernie Porter will be the cuer. The square dancing will be class level and plus level alternating with round dancing. Refreshments will be served at intermission.
Admission is $6 a person. Non-dancers are invited to watch at no charge.

HS meeting
NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the New Gloucester Meeting House, next to the Town Hall on Rte. 231. Br. Arnold Hadd of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village will give a presentation about the Shaker mills. A business meeting will follow. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.
Board to meet
LEWISTON – The CDS-Androscoggin County Governing Board will meet from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Child Development Services, 1567 Lisbon St. All interested parents and community providers are welcome. Persons requiring special accommodations may call 795-4022 to make arrangements.
School dance
MONMOUTH – The fourth annual Monmouth Father/Daughter Dance will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Monmouth Middle School gym.
The dance is for girls in grades kindergarten to six.
Cost is $15/couple; $5/additional daughter. Attire will be semi-formal. Tickets are available at the Monmouth Middle School, the Henry L. Cottrell School and at the door.
Proceeds will benefit Team Monmouth.

ORONO – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension has announced publication of Maine Home Energy, a series of bulletins designed to help Mainers keep warm, save money, heat safely and conserve energy.
The bulletins can be freely downloaded at extension.umaine.edu (click “Publications”). Printed copies can be purchased by calling 800-287-0274 (in Maine) or 581-3792.
Topics available include weather-stripping doors and windows, making inexpensive indoor shutters, making insulated window coverings, heating a home safely and saving energy in apartments.
