A recent article in the Sun Journal noted that Republicans want tax cuts and more tax cuts. The right’s “President” Rush Limbaugh has the House Republicans in lockstep with his intent to deny a recovery package from those people who don’t make $38 million a year like he does.
The media is failing the public by focusing on what little is wrong with the package, rather than on the vast majority of what is right with the bill.
While Limbaugh and the Congress have jobs and health care, tax cuts don’t help those without a job or when a current job ends. Like the fat-cat CEOs, Limbaugh, and the House Republicans, can fiddle while poeple’s lives burn, because they don’t feel any pain.
Meanwhile, there is precious little in the media about the fact that most economists, including the most conservative, say that the nation needs a massive recovery package to kick-start this economy again, and soon. A vast majority of the public wants a recovery package, as well.
The media, by focusing on the good in the bill, could help to get the jobs going now. The bad, like the lack of oversight in the bank bailout bill, can be dealt with later.
