PHILLIPS – The town has received a $25,650 grant for a backup generator for the Public Safety Building at 31B Park St., said fire Chief Jim Gould.

The money is part of a $67,743 Homeland Security grant received by Franklin County Emergency Management through Maine Emergency Management. Franklin County Emergency Director Tim Hardy asked county commissioners to accept the money last week.

The 35-kilowatt, liquid-cooled generator will provide emergency power for the building that houses the fire department, highway department and NorthStar ambulance.

Loss of power would mean the building’s automatic doors would have to be manually opened and the emergency communication system would be down, Gould said.

“The generator is pretty needed here,” he said.

Gould will contact contractors and the generator will be installed once the weather improves.
