FARMINGTON – The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has received $24,277 as part of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.

The program is administered by Federal Emergency Management Agency. It is designed to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services for the nation’s hungry and homeless and people in economic crisis.

Locally, the United Way brings a board together to allocate this money to area organizations. Past recipients have included Clearwater Ministries, United Methodist Economic Ministry, Wilton Area Food Pantry, Tri-Town Ministerial Association, Care and Share Food Closet, Stratton/Eustis Food Pantry, Friends Together Peer Support and Recovery Center and the town of Carthage.

New applications are welcome but must be submitted by Feb. 10. Please call Lisa Laflin, executive director of the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area at 778-5048 for application details.

Through this federal program and this new funding, the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has allocated more than $100,000 in emergency food and shelter assistance in the last six years.
