Did you know that the Rumford Information Center sees over 4,000 – yes – 4,000 visitors every year! Do you know how many brochures, pamphlets, maps, bottles of water, postcards and information leaves that Center? It’s absolutely amazing.

The visitors who come into the Information Center have stated that the town of Rumford has one of THE BEST centers in the state. They comment on the beauty of where it’s located, how well kept the building is and, most of all, that there is so much useful information at the center. They love the maps on the wall which show them the topography of Maine, the vastness of the state, as well as direction to travel.

The visitors can come in and enjoy wonderful photos of the area that have been donated by Rumford’s own J. Arthur Boivin. They love the aerial shots of the mill, river and the deer. It is donations of material, interest and knowledge that keeps the Information Center running.

Please know that the Rumford Information Center has the attention of the people passing through. The volunteers have vests and name tags to distinguish them amongst the public. Each volunteer has their area of expertise that they study and can be that much more knowledgeable when asked. They have organized the building to suit their needs and are proud of what they’ve been able to do.

I ask that you take pride in the Information Center and note that it sits right here in Rumford – “Gem at the Foot of the Falls.”

The Information Center is the place to be. During the week, the volunteers are there from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

If you’re interested in volunteering during the winter, please call 364-3241. I would love to see more people from neighboring towns volunteering in the Information Center!
