BUCKFIELD – Tyler Weymouth led a trio of players in double figures as Buckfield hustled to a 56-38 victory over Islesboro in a Western Class D boys’ basketball preliminary-round matchup Wednesday.

Weymouth led the Bucks with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Bryan Litchfield chipped in with 17 points, while Kyle Rines contributed with 15 points, seven assists and two steals.

Buckfield jumped out to a eight point lead in the first quarter and was never challenged.

Islesboro was paced by D.J. Johnson with 20 points, while Jason Hatch added 10.

Mt. Ararat 47, Oxford Hills 44

TOPSHAM – Alex Titcomb sparked a 13-point second-quarter run as Mt. Ararat posted a 47-44 victory over Oxford Hills in an Eastern Class A preliminary-round playoff game Wednesday evening.

Titcomb scored seven of his team-high 17 points in the second frame when the Eagles took control. Josh Walker chipped in with 14 points, the only other player in double figures.

Mt. Ararat held a 30-19 advantage at the break, but Oxford Hills roared back. After cutting the deficit to 35-30 entering the final quarter, Josh Childs hit three 3-pointers, helping the Vikings tie the game at 44-44 with less than a minute to play.

The Eagles held the ball for the final 45 seconds for the final shot, but Josh Walker drew a foul with 10 seconds left. He sank both free throws. The Vikings were then fouled driving to the hoop with 2.9 seconds to play. After missing the first free throw, they intentionally missed the second, but Alex Titcomb grabbed the rebound and added a free throw for the final three-point margin.

Childs finished with 12 points for the Vikings, while Jake Farrar added nine.

Madison 55, Livermore Falls 45

MADISON – Cody Small ignited a 23-9 run in the third quarter to propel Madison to a 55-45 victory over Livermore Falls in a Western Class C preliminary-round playoff game Wednesday.

Livermore Falls led by three at the half before Madison’s offense reached high gear in the third.

Small tallied eight of his nine total points and lifted the enthusiasm of the entire squad. Ezra Gourley led the Bulldogs (14-5) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Sam Perkins and Simon Elias each added 12. Elias also pulled down eight rebounds and dished off seven assists.

The Andies were paced by Ryan Ames with a game-high 17 points, while Chandler White tallied 10 and Tom Ventrella added eight.
