ORONO (AP) – Florida State is trying to get out of its Sept. 5 season opener against Maine.
Florida State is looking to drop the Black Bears season opener at Tallahassee’s Doak Campbell Stadium to play a nationally televised Labor Day contest against Miami.
Maine athletic director Blake James says the Bears are now looking at the possibility of rescheduling to play Syracuse University at the Carrier Dome.
Last fall, UMaine agreed to play at Syracuse in 2010, but it appears that game will be moved up. The payday for Maine is the same.
The Bears were guaranteed $450,000, even if the FSU game is canceled.
