DETROIT (AP) – Officials say a man whose body was found encased in ice in an abandoned Detroit warehouse last month died of a cocaine overdose.

The Wayne County medical examiner’s office disclosed the cause of Johnnie Redding’s death Friday.

The body of the 56-year-old man was discovered Jan. 27 by a reporter from The Detroit News. Charlie LeDuff called 911 but officers didn’t find it.

With LeDuff’s help, the body was recovered the next day in an elevator shaft.

Redding stayed with a brother in River Rouge, near Detroit, but also lived on the streets.
