LEWISTON – Marcel P. “Marc” Pomerleau, 80, of East Avenue, passed away unexpectedly early Monday, Feb. 16, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, with family at his side.

He was born in Lewiston, April 7, 1928, a son of Hector and Philomine (Fortin) Pomerleau and was educated in local schools. He was a proud veteran of the military having served his country in the Navy during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1949.

On June 30, 1951, he married the former Margaret Mary “Peggy” Tierney at St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston. From that day forward, they were practically inseparable, whenever you saw him, Peggy was with him. They settled in Hartford, Conn., and after living there for a number of years, they moved to South Portland, where he went to work in steel manufacturing for The Crosby Group.

He worked 25 years for them before moving to the Lewiston-Auburn area. He retired in 1993. He and his wife attended St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston and he was a member of the South Portland Eagles’ Club for 25 years and was also a member of the Pastime Club in Lewiston.

He loved sports and enjoyed watching and following the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather, who will be sadly missed.

He leaves his wife 57 years, Margaret “Peggy” Pomerleau of Lewiston; a daughter Mary Bailey and her husband, Scott, of Westbrook; a son, Steven Pomerleau and his partner, Mary Lou Shook, of Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Jennifer Pomerleau; his brother, Robert Pomerleau of Auburn; a special sister-in-law, Katherine Rand of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
