FARMINGTON – With American Red Cross blood supplies low, donors are getting a chance to win $250 toward their heating costs from the agency.

“We enjoy giving them something back for what they do,” said Ashley Donaldson, a Red Cross spokeswoman.

A blood drive has been scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Donors can enter a “Warm A Heart, Warm Your Home” monthly drawing.

A winner is being drawn each month December to March from all blood donors across Maine. The Red Cross will contact the winner’s heat provider and pay for an upcoming heating bill.

Donations have been lower than normal this winter, especially for types O, AB negative and O positive, Donaldson said.

Potential donors must be 17 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health.
