This is in response to Lew Alessio’s guest column Feb. 8. The headline, “Why we want to get married in Maine,” was fitting for the upcoming Valentine’s Day.
But the Sun Journal tricked me. It used that headline deceptively to promote an ideology not yet embraced by most citizens of Maine. It was printed as if it were an everyday occurrence.
Such a tactic is one of the ways ideologies sneak into hitherto closed areas.
The majority of people in Maine do not support gay marriage at this time, and to add the descriptive tagline stating “… lives with his husband,” was very pushy, presumptuous and offensive to me.
