LIVERMORE – A public hearing is set for March 3 on a plan to extend hours, and allow alcohol consumption, activities and lighting at the Barnyard All Terrain Park on Route 108.

The Planning Board accepted the amended application to owner David Lovewell’s site plan Tuesday, pending submission of additional items to the plan, board Secretary Kurt Schaub said.

The 55-acre park is a family-owned business about a half-mile from the Turner line. It operates several weekends during the summer and holds mud runs, sand runs, deep-pit runs and 4-by-4 and off-road events. Camping is allowed during events and no alcohol is allowed out in the open.

Lovewell wants to install permanent lighting in certain areas for evening activities, and build a 32- by 40-foot partially enclosed, wooden stage for vehicle staging and registrations, award presentations, announcements, outdoor concerts and other uses.

Also, he wants to add activities such as music concerts, weddings, reunions and sporting events and expand hours as business develops. He also wants to remove the existing alcohol restrictions.

“We may at times offer alcohol to be consumed on the premises at certain events,” he wrote regarding the amendments to his plan. “Alcohol will be sold by a licensed vendor or vendors. We will encourage a drink responsibly program.”

Schaub said the Planning Board has asked Lovewell, who resigned as a member of the board earlier this month, to provide a plan for parking, traffic and pedestrians for larger events such as concerts.

The board wants a photo of the type of self-contained portable lighting to be used, a copy of the state’s noise standard for after-business hours, and if there are state electrical standards and accompanying fire suppression required in connection to the permanent stage, Schaub said.

The board pulled a proposed town noise ordinance from the town meeting warrant in 2007 after a majority of residents spoke against it at a hearing.

The hearing is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the town office.
