RANGELEY – A 13-year-old Cumberland girl was hurt Tuesday night when the snowmobile she was driving hit the back of a cabin at Rangeley Lake Resort on Cottage Avenue, police Chief Dennis Leahy said.

Allie Morrill was driving a Polaris snowmobile and was coming down a hill behind a cabin, he said.

“She failed to negotiate a turn and ran into the back of a cabin,” he said. “She received a very serious laceration to her upper left thigh,” Leahy said.

A NorthStar ambulance took Morrill to meet a medical helicopter and she was flown to a hospital, he said.

The Maine Warden Service is investigating the accident, he said.

Rangeley police assisted with the accident, which was reported about 10:18 p.m., Leahy said. The snowmachine was demolished, he said. There was not much damage to the cabin.

He took pictures of the scene for the Warden Service on Wednesday morning.

No other information was available Thursday.
