PORTLAND (AP) – Portland’s first black mayor will meet with America’s first black president when 60 mayors from across the country gather at the White House with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Portland Mayor Jill Duson on Friday will join other city leaders representing the U.S. Conference of Mayors to discuss the new economic stimulus law with the president and vice president.
They are also scheduled to meet with Attorney General Eric Holder, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and White House senior staff.
Duson said she’s honored to represent Portland at the meeting and that municipalities will play an important role in the nation’s economic recovery.
