AUBURN – John R. Stegman, 69, resident of Bowdoinham Road in Lisbon Falls, died Friday, Feb. 20, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born March 11, 1939, in Stephenville, Texas, a son of Carl and Nina (Proffitt) Stegman. He was educated in and graduated from high school in Kansas City, Mo.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, retiring in 1981 as a senior chief petty officer. During his time in the Navy he served as a flight engineer on board various P3 aircraft that would search the seas for enemy submarines.

Following his retirement from the military he went to work at Boeing Co. in California where he was a field engineer who worked on various missile systems. He retired from Boeing in 2001 following 20 years of service.

He was a life member of the VFW Post of Lisbon and the American Legion Post 158 of Lisbon and enjoyed spending free time there when he could.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Charlyne (Misiorek) Stegman of Lisbon Falls; three sons, Royce Stegman of Dover, N.H., Carl “CJ” Stegman of Walpole, Mass. and Kyle Stegman of Greenland, N.H.; a brother Charles “Buddy” Stegman of Arkansas; and their respective families.
