On December 11, Lewiston Middle School held their annual Geography Bee. Every year, LMS holds this event to inspire students to learn, because winners have a chance to go to Washington, D.C. Last year, the winner was Ron Eastman, who got 2nd place in the state, which was the closest any student at LMS has ever been to earning the trip to Washington for the final bee. This year the winner is Kyle Conn, an eighth grader.

The bee is put on nationally by National Geographic, a television station and magazine. The rules were to have a school winner by December 15. Mr. Akerley was the questioner who added a rule as well. He said, “Relax and have fun!” The questions were multiple choice and open ended about categories such as continents, countries, capitols, and different land features. Thank you to Mr. Akerley and all students who participated. Congratulations to Kyle Conn for claiming the 2008-2009 LMS Geography Bee Championship.
