The highlight of the Avalanche’s week was winning its division in the 37th-annual Lions Tournament, hosted by LAYHL. In preliminary round games, the Avs defeated Lewiston White, 6-2 and 3-1, and lost twice to Lewiston Black, 4-0.

After the preliminary round games, Lewiston Black was 4-0, Lewiston White 0-4, and the Avalanche 2-2, moving Auburn into the championship game against Lewiston Black. The title game was a solid display of teamwork and effort from both local organizations.

Auburn jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead off the stick of Branden Dyer, who scored two unassisted goals.

Kyle Zamrock scored a power-play goal late in the second period, with the assist going to Brett Gravel, to get Lewiston on the board.

Lewiston Black added the tying goal at the beginning of the third period on a goal by Connor O’Malley.

Both goalies, Caleb Labrie of Lewiston and Nick Hemond of Auburn, had strong games between the pipes to keep things even thru the end of regulation play.

In the overtime period, both teams had some quality scoring opportunities to win the championship. With 1:25 left in overtime, Auburn got the winner from Ryan Lavoie, with assists going to captain Kyle Knight and winger Cameron Berube.
